Campings Trips 2024
I went camping eight times in 2024, which is three more trips than in 2023.
Riding Mountain National Park
25 May - 27 May
Starting earlier than last year, I camped at Moon Lake in Riding Mountain National Park over the May long weekend.
Hiked the South Shore and Ominik Marsh trail, very little of the Ochre River trail before encountering too much water, and got my shoes wet anyway at the Bead Lakes trail. Then I set up camp at Moon Lake.
Westman Naturalists hosted another Warbler Trek at the South Shore trail along Clear Lake. After the group hike I went to Whirlpool Lake and photographed a very obliging Eastern Phoebe. Next was the Gorge Creek trail, which I didn't finish in time but still found some nice warblers and a new insect, an Eye-spotted Lady Beetle.
I left the park through Hwy 19 and Rolling River Rd. There were a few Snowshoe Hare and I got a second attempt at photographing a Spruce Grouse.
